Exploring the impact of power in the systems development process — a three-dimensional view

Thomas P. S. Brouwer

pp. 155-159

"Soft" Systems Thinking, primarily associated with the work of Check-land (1981) marked a significant break with the 'systems engineering" approach to systems development, questioning the applicability of the 'scientific" method to what was essentially a "human activity process". Checkland's work added a new dimension to systems thinking and practice and, perhaps more than any previous work, made clear the contribution the social sciences could make to systems theory and practice.
