(2018) A phenomenology of musical absorption, New York, Palgrave Macmillan.
The conclusion summarizes the findings of this investigation broken down into the themes of "the absorbed reflective self", "the absorbed minimal self", and "the absorbed body". I show that the question of "who is playing?" can be answered by referring to a minimal bodily, affective, and emotional self and that the sources of passivity can account for how it is possible to perform sophisticated music without being explicitly aware of it. I end by bringing up the interview-based, interdisciplinary methodology, point to its potentials and possible applications, and suggest future directions into which the basic analysis of this entire project can go.
