Emergent practice in agricultural research

David McClintock, Stephany Kersten, Ray Ison

pp. 79-83

Creating a space for understandings to emerge can be contrasted with research approaches that try to change understandings. This contrast is illustrated by a distinction between researching with people and researching for people (or on people). Researching with people can address issues of social as well as ecological sustainability, as this approach involves relationships between people and their environment at its core.
